An honest scale check
What size shop can we actually build well?
Ecommerce is where cheap quotes go wrong most often. A real store with hundreds of products is a serious piece of software, and pretending otherwise costs you money and us our reputation. Here is where we draw the lines.
A handful of products
We buildUp to ~30 items
From £600
A small catalogue you sell directly — prints, parts, services, a single product range. This is the Complete package with a storefront and Cloudflare-backed checkout links.
A growing shop
We build30–200 items
£1,200–£2,500
Needs proper product structure, categories, search, stock handling and delivery rules. We quote this per project, and it is the point where a build stops being a website and starts being a shop.
A full store
We refer200+ items
£3,000+
Multi-currency, complex tax, warehouse integration, high order volume. This is specialist work and we would be doing you a disservice to quote for it. We will refer you on instead.
What is included
Built for selling, not just for looking at
A shop has to do things a brochure site does not. These are the parts that matter, and they are all included.
A checkout that converts
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe. Guest checkout by default — forcing account creation is one of the most reliable ways to lose a sale.
Products you control
Add, edit and remove products, change prices, update stock and upload images yourself. No developer, no invoice, no waiting.
UK delivery and VAT
Delivery bands, free-shipping thresholds, collection options and VAT handling configured the way UK customers expect to see it.
Automated order emails
Order confirmations to the customer and notifications to you, sent automatically from your own domain rather than a third-party relay.
Fast under load
Pages are served from Cloudflare’s edge. When a promotion or a social post sends you a spike in traffic, there is no server to fall over.
Product structured data
Price, availability and reviews marked up in the format Google uses, so your products can appear with prices directly in search results.
The alternative
When Shopify is the better answer
We would rather tell you this than take work that does not fit.
If you are planning a large catalogue, need a mature app ecosystem, want to run multi-currency from day one, or simply want a platform with a phone number to call — use Shopify. It is a good product and it is built for exactly that. We will happily tell you so, because a client who is on the wrong platform is worse for us than a client we never had.
A custom store on Cloudflare makes sense when your catalogue is small, when a £25–£300 monthly fee would outgrow the build cost within a couple of years, and when you would rather own the thing you are paying for than rent it indefinitely.
Ecommerce questions
What people ask before selling online
How much does an ecommerce website cost?
A small catalogue of up to about 30 products starts at £600 with us. Beyond that, pricing depends entirely on complexity: a 100-product shop with categories, search and delivery rules typically runs £1,200–£2,500. Full stores with hundreds of products, multi-currency pricing and warehouse integration are £3,000+ and are genuinely a different discipline — we will tell you if that is what you need rather than quoting for something we cannot do well.
Should I use Shopify or have a store built?
Shopify is a good product and genuinely the right answer for many shops — it has an app ecosystem, reliable payments and you can run it yourself. It also costs £25–£300 a month forever, and you are renting rather than owning. A custom store on Cloudflare makes sense when your catalogue is small, the monthly fee would outgrow the build cost within a couple of years, and you want to own the thing outright. For a large shop with complex needs, Shopify usually wins and we will say so.
How do payments work?
We connect you to a payment provider — Stripe is the usual choice for UK businesses, and it handles cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. You hold the account, so the money goes straight to you and you keep control. Stripe charges around 1.5% + 20p per UK transaction, taken by Stripe, not by us.
Is a Cloudflare-hosted shop secure enough to take payments?
Yes, and more so than most. Card details never touch your site or our servers — the customer enters them on the payment provider’s own PCI-compliant checkout. Cloudflare sits in front with a web application firewall, DDoS protection and bot filtering included at no extra cost. That is the same infrastructure a large share of the internet already runs on.
Can I manage products and orders myself?
Yes. The Complete package includes a content management system, and for shops we extend it to products, images, prices and stock levels. You add a product without touching code. Orders arrive by email and are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database you can browse.
What about delivery charges and VAT?
Both are built in. We set up UK delivery bands — free over a threshold, flat rate, collection, whatever your business does — and VAT handling if you are VAT registered, with prices shown inclusive or exclusive as you prefer. Getting this wrong is one of the most common problems on small UK shops, so we handle it during the build rather than after.
Tell us what you sell and we will tell you what it takes.
Small catalogues start at £600. Larger shops we quote per project — and if yours is genuinely better served by Shopify, we will say that instead of taking the work.
