What a website costs in the UK — and our actual prices

Almost every web design quote you will get is vague until you are on a call. This page does the opposite: real numbers, what drives them up, what does not, and what you get at each level.

  • 50% to start, 50% on launch
  • Prices fixed before any work begins

The honest answer

What actually decides the price

Website quotes vary by a factor of ten for the same brief. These are the variables that genuinely move the number — everything else is sales positioning.

Factors that affect the cost of a website
FactorImpact on costWhat that means
Number of pagesBiggest single factorEach page needs its own design, its own content and its own SEO. Moving from one page to five roughly triples the work, which is why the price moves from £100 to £300 rather than staying flat.
Custom design vs a templateModerateWe design around your business rather than filling in a bought theme. That adds time, but it is also the difference between a site that looks like yours and one that looks like a thousand others.
Ecommerce or paymentsSignificantTaking money means products, stock, tax, delivery options, refunds and security. It is a different category of build, and any quote under £1,000 for a real store should be treated with suspicion — including ours.
AI featuresModerateAn assistant that answers questions about your business needs training on your content, a backend to serve it and testing against real questions. Worth it for some businesses, decoration for others.
Copywriting and photographyVariableIf you supply your own text and photos, you save money. If we have to write the copy or source imagery, that is real work and it is priced separately.
Rush deliveryVariableOur standard timeline is three days to three weeks. If you need something live by Friday, ask — we can often do it, but it depends on what else is in the queue.

Running costs

What it costs to keep a website alive

The build price is not the only number that matters. Here is the full picture of what you pay every year after launch.

Hosting

£0

Cloudflare serves static websites on its free tier, which comfortably covers a small business site. There is no monthly hosting bill because there is no server to rent — your pages are cached across 300+ cities and served from the nearest one.

Domain name

~£12/year

A .co.uk domain costs around £10–£15 a year. It is registered in your name, not ours, so you are never held hostage by your web designer — a remarkably common problem.

Care plan (optional)

£25/month

Content edits, uptime checks, backup and someone to email when something looks wrong. Entirely optional — cancel whenever you like and your site keeps running.

Compare that with a WordPress site on managed hosting at £20–£60 a month, plus a plugin licence or two, plus the occasional invoice when something breaks. Over three years the difference is usually several hundred pounds — and that is before counting the time you spend on it.

Pricing questions

Asked and answered

How much does website design cost in the UK?

For a small business brochure website in the UK in 2026, most quotes land between £500 and £5,000. Freelancers and fixed-price studios cluster at the lower end, agencies at the upper end. Our own prices are £100 for one page, £300 for up to five pages and £600 for a full site with AI and a backend — deliberately at the low end, because AI-assisted building removes much of the production time that made websites expensive.

Why is your £100 website so much cheaper than an agency quote?

Two reasons. First, AI handles a lot of the production work — layout variations, responsive breakpoints, boilerplate — so a page that took a day now takes an hour. We pass that saving on rather than pocketing it. Second, we do not carry agency overheads: no account managers, no office in central London, no pitch process. You deal with the person building the site.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. The price you are quoted is the price on the invoice. The only ongoing costs are your domain name (roughly £10–£15 a year, registered in your name), and the optional £25/month care plan if you want us to handle hosting, edits and backups. Hosting itself on Cloudflare is free at this scale.

What if I need more than five pages?

The Complete package covers up to ten pages. Beyond that we will quote per page or per project. If your requirement is genuinely larger than our packages, we will say so rather than squeezing it into a price that does not fit — a bad fit costs us both more than turning it down.

Do you charge for changes after launch?

Thirty days of fixes after launch are included — that covers anything that is broken or wrong. After that, small text changes are usually a quick email and no charge. The £25/month care plan formalises it with a set number of edits each month plus hosting, uptime monitoring and backups.

How does a website redesign compare on cost?

A redesign usually costs the same as building fresh, and sometimes slightly more, because we first have to understand the existing site and preserve the search rankings it has earned. We cover this in detail on the website redesign page.

Do you take a deposit?

We ask for 50% to start and 50% on launch. You see a live preview of the site before the final payment, so you are never paying the balance for something you have not seen.

A one-page website is £100. A five-page site is £300.

Send us a couple of sentences about your business and we will confirm the scope and the exact price — usually the same working day. If the £600 package is more than you need, we will tell you.
